| Along with all the physical activity of working on the farm, we
also spent quite a bit of time running around in Ticino and parts of
Italy. After our first week of working at l'Orto, Mauro invited us on a
hike in some nearby hills where we could make a day hike. It was really
great fun, and as you can see, Martin and I had quite the job to keep up with
Luiza! We also coined a new phrase during our extended excursion to the
top of the nearby hill, it has a nice Polish-Slovak-American ring to it, but in
English the term is: Cow Mountaineering. Can you say moooo? In any
event, our meeting point was reasonably close to our prison home in Torricella,
and I was really surprised to see this building there in a small town in the
Ticino area.
Our hike begins in easy enough, no racing going on until it gets really steep! As you can see, the Swiss are really very lucky to have such beautiful countryside I am trying my best to keep up with the fast people. We are taking a little break waiting for the rest of the group. See, for Luiza and Martin, no problem... and I am already beginning to sweat I return down the hill a little to see how the rest of the group is doing. No one is interested in racing to the top. I'm not certain how much we had walked up the hill, but this is a photo of our goal. Martin, Luiza and I make it to to top! It was rough keeping up with Luiza, but along the way we had some fun. Like coming up with nicknames for each other. Luiza was "Speed Demon", Martin was "Sputnik" and I was.. well I don't rightly recall what my nickname was.. possibly "Ahasuerus", but I don't recall. Mauro take a call before we begin to make our way down the hill, the group waits patiently. |
