| My workcamp in Mannenbach, Switzerland was
really an interesting experience. First, the workcamp was very different
than the previous hard labor workcamps. Our job was to support Peace
Brigades International during their conference and General Assembly.
My fellow workcamp volunteers and the PBI people were simply great.
We had such a good time it's hard to believe the time just flew by.
For the conference we had to make our way to Konstanz, just a short train
ride away and across a border check! Here we are in a bar, just after
eating lunch.
Here's the entire group. During the conference we had a variety of things to do. On the grass just outside the hall we helped to construct a bridge for an art project that PBI was going to use for an event. Anyway, John, one of the PBI people was trying to take pictures of the event and needed a camera since his digital camera didn't have a memory card. I lent him mine and show him how to use it by taking a quick picture of Fiona. Behind her on the grass you can see the initial art project and the lake Bodensee. The following pictures John took of the conference. In the large house we stayed in we could hike up the hill. I snapped a few pictures of the lake from there. Bodensee borders Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This particular day we are heading on a hike to Stein Am Rhine. While we were hanging out I also took a picture of Alessia and Rich, my fellow American from New York. We walked through several towns on our way to Stein Am Rhine. The Swiss towns are very picturesque like this one. More of Bodensee. Along our way we came across some sheep. We finally got to Stein Am Rhine after walking for 4 or 5 hours and taking a train for the last part. Here are a few photo's of the main square and around town. One morning Jurgen announced that group pictures would be taken. I ran up and grabbed my camera and poor Rachel must have take about a dozen photo's with just as many camera's! Anyway, this is the photo that Rachel took of all of us! So, where's Waldo? Later on that evening we presented Eva, our fearless leader, with a card and a gift. This was a good time to take a few pictures in the house on the first floor. Haejoung is going to present Eva with the gift we have for her. In the background at the computers are Reis and Rachel, standing up is Fetah. I still wanted to take a few photo's so I managed to figure out how I can take the picture and also be in the photo as well! Here are my first attempts with Reiner, Rich and myself being guinea pigs! We were having such a good time that someone wanted to take a group photo of us. Here we all are again, Rachel is taking a picture of the group with Rich's camera. Some of the PBI people get into the fun. Another self photo.. I'm getting good at this! Sometimes Alessia would just break out into song. She is really a good singer and has been on regional Italian TV and may be on National Italian TV, woa! Belt that shit out Alessia, que bella! I don't know what the heck happened here. Fiona is really trying to straighten my glasses, she does a pretty good job! Another self photo. I caught Fiona outside later that evening. I guess she had wanted to wear a skirt that evening, but it's so cold she has to wear a jacket and pants. Go figure... some of the European fashion is beyond me, but Sanna would be proud! |
